Wagon co-design

WAGON CO-DESIGN
Wagon designed to assist children as makers of their own play tools.
As part of my Thesis Work on Adapting the City for Play, I worked alongside a 7 year old to design an object that could assist children in the making of their own play tools.
The process explored the idea of ongoing prototyping. A material dialogue between makers and place through play. The wagon was originally made in cardboard by the Master Builder. To test if the object would be developed through play, we started storing it at the park. It was continually worked on without my assistance for 3 weeks. changing form and being used on the playground.
After it broke apart I offerered to design a new verison alongside the Master Builder using stronger materials. By now we had learnt much about its desired function. I took the wagon to my studio, and designed a system that could be continually reconfigured similar to the cardboard version. I presented the parts, we shared learnings and assembled a form together
Wagon 2.0 became a new object in the park for children to use. It stored found materials and added new tools for play, produced by the children themselves.
